Royal Weddings, Nottingham Lace and Samantha Peach Masks
It’s been many a year since we had a Royal Wedding to get excited about here in Great Britain and with just a week to go until the big day, it won’t be long before we find out what Kate will be wearing. Will there be any lace on her dress? The last two Royal Wedding dresses – worn by Princess Diana in 1981 and the Duchess of York in 1986 – have both featured genuine Nottingham lace from our very own lace supplier here in Nottingham.
We’ve written previously about Nottingham Lace and Us, and we’re pleased to say that we’re still getting our lace from the last remaining lace factory in Nottingham – Fewkes.
Their story is a fascinating one in itself – you can read all about them here – but probably their finest hour was designing and creating the lace for Princess Diana’s wedding dress. Then five years later they did Fergie’s guipure bow and embroidered down both sides of the bridal veil.
We try and use Fewkes lace on as many of our lace masks as possible, including our specially commissioned motifs.
So when Kate walks down the aisle next Friday, keep an eye out for some of that genuine Nottingham lace. We think this would suit her perfectly……
